Thanks to goalkeeper Darian Brown and a strong defensive effort, the Pennfield soccer team came out of Monday’s Kalamazoo Valley Association Tournament opener with a win.
The Panthers defeated visiting Galesburg-Augusta 2-1, with Darrin Blocker scoring both goals in the first half.
“It was a back-and-forth game,” said Pennfield head coach Steve Kipp. “They definitely made runs and tried to push it through. Our back four are pretty quick and we kept them away from our goal.”
Brown finished with nine saves in the contest, while Brayden Bennett and Garrett Day each had an assist.
Pennfield (7-7, 6-2 KVA) will play at Kalamazoo Christian in the tournament’s second round on Wednesday.
