Eastern York (Wrightsville, Pa.) used a balanced attack to defeat Hanover (Pa.) 62-37 on Friday with Alex Cooley running left and right — and right over — his opponents.
Cooley, a senior running back, ran for an even 500 yards and eight touchdowns. He leads rushers in Pennsylvania with 1,389 yards through five games. Five of his touchdowns Friday came on runs of 42 yards or more.
Except for a bit of good sportsmanship, he would have had more. Late in the game, he was alone on a breakaway but took a knee at the 50-yard line. The rest of this week’s top high school football performances (in alphabetical order):

Corey Clement, Glassboro (N.J.)
Ran for 476 yards and seven touchdowns, including scores of 92 and 94 yards, on 15 carries in a 45-23 defeat of Gloucester City on Friday.
Stephen Dietrich, Michigan Lutheran Seminary (Saginaw, Mich.)
Accounted for touchdowns four ways in a 45-40 loss to Valley Lutheran (Saginaw) on Friday. He had a 76-yard touchdown run, threw a 44-yard touchdown pass, caught a touchdown pass of 66 yards and took a fumble recovery 30 yards for a touchdown.
Michael Ford, Marquette Catholic (Alton, Ill.)
Ran for 229 yards and scored five touchdowns, including an 83-yard kickoff return, in a 52-48 win at Nokomis on Friday. He has rushed for 1,040 yards through six games.
Chris Graebner, Freeland (Mich.)
Had 14 tackles and a fumble recovery in a 35-14 defeat of Bullock Creek (Midland).
Derrick Henry, Yulee (Fla.)
Ran for 363 yards and six touchdowns in a nationally televised 42-6 defeat of Glades Central (Belle Glade) on Friday.
Jalen Hurd, Beech (Hendersonville, Tenn.)
Scored all four of his team’s touchdowns, running for 212 yards and three touchdowns and catching a touchdown pass in a 28-21 defeat of Hendersonville on Friday. He also intercepted a late pass to cement the win for the 7-0 Buccaneers.
Javaughn Johnson, Robinson (Tampa)
Recovered two fumbles for touchdowns and returned an interception for a touchdown in a 49-0 defeat of Blake (Tampa) on Friday.
Josh Martinez, Bellarmine-Jefferson (Burbank, Calif.)
Ran for 240 yards, five touchdowns and the winning two-point conversion in a 50-49 defeat of Pasadena Poly on Friday. In his past two games, he’s had 571 yards of total offense and scored 10 touchdowns.
Blake Zeman, Marion County (Jasper, Tenn.)
Ran for 337 yards and four touchdowns, threw a touchdown pass and ran for two two-point conversions in a 51-47 defeat of Lookout Valley (Chattanooga) on Friday.
