Crooksville reached its first regional in 10 years this season under first-year coach Greg Williams, and his efforts were honored by his peers recently.

Williams was named Southeast District Softball Coach of the Year in Division IV by the district’s coaches, headlining area selections. In addition, Sheridan’s Doug Fisher, who led the Generals to a No. 1 seed in the tournament, was named Division II Coach of the Year in baseball.

Williams led the Ceramics to an 11-11 record, culminated by the school’s first district title since 2002. Their season ended with a 2-1 loss to top-ranked, defending state champion Strasburg in the regional semifinals.

Other Ceramics honored included senior catcher Madison Sprankle, who was named to the first team in Division IV, and senior pitcher Macey Anders, who was a second-team selection. Shortstop Brianna Finck was honorable mention.

New Lexington, which reached the district finals, placed four members on the Division II squad. Junior first baseman Brook Baker was a first-team pick after posting a team-high .511 batting average. Junior Ally Foreman was a second-team pick, while junior Sydney Wycinski and freshman Tatum Brown were awarded honorable mention.

Also in Division II, Sheridan senior Maria Holbrook and junior Courtney Plaisted were second-team honorees, and honorable mention went to junior Sara Crist and freshman Whitney Bobo.

Sheridan and New Lexington were also represented well on the Division I-II baseball squads.

Sheridan seniors Jacob Horsley, Drew Murray and Seth Helser made first team as they led the Generals to a 19-8 record.

Horsley batted .420 with two home runs, three triples, 10 doubles, 24 RBI, nine stolen bases and 35 runs scored, Helser had a .494 average with 41 RBI, three homers, seven doubles and 32 runs scored and Murray was 4-3 with one save and totaled 62 strikeouts and 28 walks in 41 2/3 innings.

New Lexington senior Drew Wollenberg was also on first team, while Taylor Brown and Braxton Cannon were honorable mention in Division II.

No Crooksville baseball players were selected in Division III.
