Pine Forest's Jayla King commits to USF

By

Jayla King, who will be a four-year starter this season for the Pine Forest High girls basketball team, has given a verbal commitment to play at the University of South Florida.
King, a starter as a freshman when Pine Forest last reached the state final four, has played all five positions for the Eagles. She is projected to play as the No. 3 guard position at USF.
“She is really the first player I’ve who will go straight from high school to (NCAA) Division I since Lady Comfort, who played for me at Woodham,” said Pine Forest coach Chris Godwin, who has other players currently playing at Division I schools this season.
“Jayla had a lot of nice offers from schools like Wake Forest, Cincinnati, Nebraska and others. Academically, she is very good in the classroom. I am very excited for her. It’s almost like all this hard work has paid off.”
King will be one of five returning senior players for Pine Forest this season.
