Throughout the season the first quarter had been kind to the Two Rivers football team, but on Friday night the Raiders allowed 21 points in the frame and couldn’t recover from the three-score deficit in a 42-21 home loss to Plymouth.

The Raiders, who entered the game undefeated and tied atop the Eastern Wisconsin Conference along with Plymouth, struggled on their first three drives as the Panthers caused them to punt, fumble on a fake punt attempt and punt.

Plymouth (8-0, 7-0 EWC) made Two Rivers (7-1, 6-1 EWC) trail for the first time this season with a 33-yard touchdown run with just more than four minutes left in the first quarter. Minutes later, the Panthers’ Kollin Neils threw a 51-yard touchdown to Cory Unger to make it 14-0. Then, with just six second left in the frame, Plymouth running back Eric Roberts scored on a 51-yard run.

A 20-mile-per-hour wind seemed to wreak havoc on the Raiders early, but after a 62-yard run by Two Rivers quarterback Brett Kasper, Dexter Smith scored on a fourth-and-goal one-yard run to make it 21-7. Prior to Kasper’s score the Panthers had not allowed a point to be scored in the second quarter all season.

The Panthers answered with 3:14 left in the half as Neils hit Roberts on a 22-yard strike. Then, on the final play of the first half, Neils rushed 29 yards for a score to make it 35-7 at the half. The Panthers accumulated 181 rushing yards in the first half.

The Two Rivers offense came to life in the second half, with Kasper notching a rushing touchdown, a 16-yarder, that came with 4:09 left in the third quarter. Plymouth followed by scoring on a 26-yard touchdown pass by Neils, but Smith notched his second touchdown on a one-yard run to make it 42-21 at the end of the third quarter.

Both teams were scoreless in the final frame.

Two Rivers allowed 487 yards of total offense — 303 on the ground. It was the first game this season Kasper was held without a passing touchdown.

The Raiders will find out today who their first-round matchup for the WIAA Division 3 State Football Playoffs. The game will be played on either Oct. 19 or Oct. 20 with the site to be determined.
