1. Navarre 2-6A 4-1
Skinny: Raiders left little doubt about where they stand in the area with a 26-0 win over the Catholic Crusaders. Navarre has established themselves as the team to beat in District 2-6A. Raiders now face a Choctaw team that upset Niceville Friday night.
Up next: hosts Choctaw, Friday.
2. Pace 1-6A 4-1
Skinny: Patriots cruise to a very workmanlike 27-3 win over Washington to improve to 2-0 in District 1-6A play. Patriots and top-ranked Navarre could be on a collision course to meet again in the state playoffs.
Up next: vs. PHS, Friday.
3. Catholic 1-3A 4-1
Skinny: Crusaders failed to convert on three red-zone chances in the first half and gave up three long plays to the Navarre Raiders in dropping a 26-0 decision. Catholic has to bounce back quickly as they open district play this week.
Up next: at Florida High, Friday.
4. West Florida 1-5A 5-0
Skinny: Jaguars continued to roll with a big win over Alma Bryant of Alabama. The Hurricanes entered the game with a 1-3 record but had lost to three of the top teams in Class 6A in Alabama. Good win for West Florida.
Up next: hosts Gulf Breeze, Friday.
5. Pensacola 1-6A 2-1
Skinny: Tigers enjoyed a week off before jumping back into the fray of District 1-6A play. Tough stretch looms for PHS as they travel to face Pace before traveling to Pine Forest on Oct. 19. These next three weeks could make or break the season for PHS.
Up next: at Pace, Friday.
6. Pine Forest 1-6A 2-2
Skinny: Eagles put consecutive losses behind them as they rolled to a 39-0 win over the Tate Aggies. Quarterback Rashaad Lee sat out with an injury, but senior Trebian Suggs and sophomore James Mayberry picked up the slack.
Up next: OPEN.
7. Gulf Breeze 1-5A 3-1
Skinny: Dolphins pulled away from a game Northview team with touchdown runs by Andy Creech in the second half. Gulf Breeze now turns its attention to the West Florida Jaguars and a showdown for the District 1-5A lead.
Up next: at West Florida, Friday.
8. Milton 1-6A 3-2
Skinny: Panthers got a late interception to hold off the Escambia Gators for a big victory for Milton. Playmakers Isaiah Jones and Dejon Funderburk both had big games as the Panthers got back in the win column.
Up next: at Tate, Friday.
9. Escambia 1-6A 2-3
Skinny: The Gators’ attempt to knock off the Milton Panthers and improve to 2-0 in District 1-6A play fell short as the Panthers intercepted a late pass to end a scoring threat. Gators had another big effort from tailback Danikiee Hollowell.
Up next: at Washington, Friday.
10. Washington 1-6A 1-3
Skinny: The Wildcats looked good at times Friday night, but ultimately dropped a 27-3 loss to the Pace Patriots. The Wildcats turned the ball over five times, all through the air, and Pace took advantage.
Up next: hosts Escambia, Friday.
11. Northview 1-1A 3-2
Skinny: For a half, the Chiefs went toe-to-toe with Class 5A Gulf Breeze. But depth kicked in and the Dolphins wore down Northview in the second half. Chiefs will have to bounce back and get ready for Jay and the District 1-1A opener.
Up next: hosts Jay, Friday.
12. Tate 1-6A 0-4
Skinny: Aggies found it tough against the Pine Forest Eagles, which had dropped consecutive losses going into the game. Tate was able to keep it close early, but Pine Forest cruised in the second half.
Up next: hosts Milton, Friday.
13. Jay 1-1A 2-2
Skinny: Royals bounce back from a tough loss to Sneads by rolling past the South Walton Seahawks by a 29-6 margin. Jay now gets ready for a trip to Century to take on District 1-1A rival Northview in the league opener.
