Poor field conditions cause more changes on the fly for Section 1 playoff teams

By

The already jumbled Section 1 playoff schedules were thrown into further disarray today due to some unplayable field conditions caused by Wednesday’s storm.

The results? Teams scrambling to get to new sites on time for games still on for today; several more postponements; and then the unlikely decision to go ahead and play two of the games that had been postponed.

The Haldane and Solomon Schechter boys soccer teams, scheduled to meet in the Class C boys soccer final at 4:30 p.m., had to hustle to Somers High School for a 3 p.m. showdown. The Somers football team was then to take the field, at 6 p.m., to host Sleepy Hollow in the Class A final, originally scheduled for the same time at Mahopac High School.

The other two boys soccer finals set for today — Port Chester against Byram Hills in Class A and North Salem vs. Blind Brook in Class B — were postponed until Friday. A short while later, the games were back on again, with the Class B game slated for 4:30 p.m. and the Class A game for 6:30 p.m., both at John Jay High School.

Meanwhile, the three girls soccer finals scheduled for today were postponed until Friday. Somers will face Pearl River in Class A; Albertus Magnus will battle Bronxville in Class B; and Tuckahoe will take on Haldane in Class C.

The Section 1 field hockey finals, Section 1 diving championships and Section 1 volleyball finals all were expected to go on today as scheduled.
