Port Charlotte scored three touchdowns in the first two and a half minutes of the fourth quarter, and went on to defeat Gulf Coast in a District 7A-11 contest.
The Pirates got a 29-yard TD pass from Traige McClary to Paulsin Heitter, a 93-yard pass from McClary to Heitter, and a 52-yard run from Keon Suber to pull away from a 6-6 deadlock to a 27-6 lead and put the game away.
“We just gave up the big play too many times,” said Gulf Coast coach Pete Fominaya. “We put ourselves in a good situation, a lot of third downs, but we just weren’t executing. We’ve just got to find a way to finish. That’s what defines a great football team, when you get in close games you finish. We’re just not at that point yet.”
