Port Clinton’s boys golf team earned a Division II sectional title at Sawmill Creek on Thursday for the third time in program history.
The Redskins won the Sandusky Bay Conference championship and a sectional title in the same year for the first time in program history. Port Clinton also earned sectional crowns in 1975 and 1995.
“Very happy for our team,” Port Clinton coach Rick Dominick said. “Sawmill Creek is a challenging golf course and this was an exceptionally strong sectional field with three league champions and two more league runners-up.”
Joey Kurtz shot a 77 (38-39), Shane Meek an 84 (40-44), Jason Mueller an 85 (44-41) and Sean Black an 86 (43-43) for the Redskins.
“Joey was very focused and really set the tone with the way he played,” Dominick said. “Shane, Jason and Sean played solid rounds of golf and never let their rounds get away from them. This group has earned the right to play in the district tournament and with all of the time and work they have put in, they are very deserving champions.”
Districts are Thursday at Sycamore Springs.
