The start to the season hasn’t gone the way Poudre High School’s softball team would have hoped. The start to conference play couldn’t have gone better.
The Impalas opened play in the Front Range League on Tuesday with a 12-5 victory over visiting Mountain Range. It was only Poudre’s second win this season.
Even in this victory, things started poorly as the Impalas allowed Mountain Range to jump out 3-0 in the first inning.
It was a nine-run inning in the third that turned it around for the Impalas (2-5-1), whose other win came Aug. 21 against Monarch at the Triple Crown Invitational.
“Today we responded,” Poudre coach Christy Malara said. “We were down early, but we didn’t give up and went out and got ourselves back into it and took control.
“It was a good game for us and a great way to start league play.”
Sarah Johnson was 3 for 4 and drove in four runs for the Impalas, while Laura Hanna went 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Poudre is back in action Thursday at Monarch in a conference matchup.
