A fast start keyed Kohler’s boys basketball team in a 78-57 win over CEO Leadership Academy in the championship of its own tournament Saturday.

Led by Dominic Bocchini and Brennan Ladwig, who scored 20 and 22 points respectively — the Blue Bombers (4-5) to a 26-9 lead after the first quarter.

Bocchini also added six assists and Ladwig pulled down nine rebounds for the winners.

Coach Ken Roeder also praised the play of sophomore Noah Fink, who chipped in seven points and seven boards.

Monster games from Nicole Fenner and Staci Hasler spurred the Falcons to the non-conference win at home.

Fenner finished with a double-double, with 11 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, while Hasler scored 15 points and had a career-high eight steals for Falls (7-0).

“It was a nice win,” Falls coach Leroy Hamilton said. “(Sturgeon Bay) is a nice ball club.”

Linnea Schmelzer had 13 points to lead Sturgeon Bay (5-3).

Mari Marzano paced Kohler (2-6) with nine points. Lauren Kita had 14 points for Gibraltar (3-3).

The Huskies managed just one point in the first half of the non-conference road loss.

“We did a nice job defensively,” Xavier coach Brian Garvey said. “They struggled shooting. We created a lot of turnovers. We ran some good offense in the first half.”
