MATT HEEDER

LANSING CATHOLIC sophomore

Undefeated start: Heeder’s 10-0 start includes No. 1 singles titles in tournaments at Alma, St. Johns and Okemos. He was a league and regional champion and state semifinalist at No. 2 singles in 2011 while his brother Paul played No. 1 singles. Two of his wins have come against the player who beat him in the state semifinals and another who made the 2010 semis.

From coach Ron Landfair: “He’s probably better at this same age than his older brother Paul was. He’s grown four or five inches, but seems to have acclimated himself to that new height terrifically well. Matt has certainly elevated his play above last year. He’s mature beyond his years. Sometime in the next three years, Matt will lead us to a state title. I think his talent is that good. He also helps other players get better. He helps them with their footwork and by returning serves.”
