Two regional trophies: Armstrong won the Division 3 regional at New Boston last Saturday while helping the sixth-ranked Panthers earn the team regional title and qualify as a team for Saturday’s state finals, where Armstrong earned all-state honors by finishing 25th in 2011.

From coach Steve Allison: “He’s had a pretty good season, mostly under the radar. This was his first big individual win. In racing, he’s the most dependable kid I’ve ever coached. I have had kids that were faster, but I never had the 100 percent confidence they were going to show up. If he needs to have a good race, I know he is going to come through for us. He rises to the occasion when he needs to. He’s not too far from 4.0 (GPA), and — as a captain — has been a good role model that you can work hard, have fun and still do well in the classroom. His demeanor is infectious. He’s always having fun and is in light spirits, but he works hard. He takes things seriously — but not too seriously.”
