After forcing four turnovers in the first three minutes the Roncalli boys basketball team jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never trailed en rout to a 64-37 Olympian Conference home win over Hilbert on Thursday night.

Leading 14-6 after the first quarter, Roncalli (3-0, 2-0 OC) allowed Hilbert (0-3, 0-2 OC) to cut it to within 22-18, but the Jets’ man-to-man defense became too much for the Wolves.

Roncalli responded to Hilbert’s run with a 12-2 run of its own to finish the first half and lead 34-20 entering halftime.

Seniors Nate Lassila and Isaiah Bessert each scored 11 points in the first half with Bessert at one point making three straight 3-pointers.

The Jets opened the second half with a Nick Stelzer 3-pointer and went on a 15-0 run to make it 51-25 at the end of the third quarter.

Lassila finished with a team-high 18 point while Bessert added 14. Stelzer additionally contributed 13 points as the Jets outrebounded Hilbert 7-1 on the offensive end.

The game ended too late for a complete box score to be included in today’s print edition of the Herald Times Reporter.

Roncalli next will play Milwaukee Riverside on Saturday at the Terry Porter Classic in Milwaukee.

Valders made six 3-pointers in the first quarter to jump out to a 31-15 lead after the first frame and never looked back in the Olympian Conference home win.

The Vikings led 38-38 at halftime as Thomas Schwoerer had a team-high 19 points and teammate Forrest Fenlon added 18.

Valders (3-0, 2-0 OC) led St. Mary Central (1-2, 0-2 OC) 49-36 at the end of the third quarter.

Valders will host Wrightstown (2-0, 1-0 OC) on Tuesday.

Derek Hlinak led the Indians with seven points.
