Trailing early, the Two Rivers boys basketball team grabbed a lead near the end of the first quarter and never relinquished in a 51-47 road non-conference win over Manitowoc Lutheran on Tuesday night.

The win was Two Rivers’ fifth straight over Manitowoc Lutheran.

The Lancers led early, but the Raiders rallied with about two minutes left in the first quarter to make it 10-6 entering the second frame.

Over the next two quarters it was mostly all Two Rivers as the Raiders led 26-22 at halftime and 35-26 entering the fourth quarter. It was a total team effort by the Raiders, as seven of Two Rivers’ players scored in the first half alone.

But Lutheran would not go down without a fight, and after trailing by as many as 11 points in the final frame, had a 10- run to cut its deficit to 40-39 with 1:30 left in the game.

Two Rivers, which had gone cold, found a way to make crucial layups and sunk many critical free throws down the stretch to hold of the Lancers and emerge victorious.

Brett Linzmeier was the only Two Rivers player to reach double-digits as he had 15 points with 10 rebounds while teammate Brett Kasper also had 10 rebounds while adding six points. Mac Shimulunas and Dexter Smith each added nine points for Two Rivers. The Raiders were 3-of-15 from the 3-point line.

For Lutheran, Garrett Buch had a team-high 15 points with thee 3-pointers while teammate Ethan Hillmer added 11 points.

Valders 57, Kohler 45

At Kohler, Valders led 17-14 after the first quarter and never looked back.

The Vikings led Kohler, which entered the game on a three-game winning streak, 31-27 at halftime before breaking the game open to make it 51-42 with just less than three minutes remaining in the game.
