Prep boys tennis: CAAC tourney is today

The four CAAC tournaments will take place today, a little earlier in the fall than previous years due to the CAAC Showcase scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6. The CAAC Showcase is a three-tiered tournament that is patterned after the CAAC Cup in soccer and volleyball.

Today, the CAAC Blue starts at 9 a.m. with singles at East Lansing, doubles at Okemos, and all finals at East Lansing. Okemos, which went 6-0 in dual matches, is favored over two teams that finished 4-1-1: Holt and East Lansing. Grand Ledge and Jackson (2-3-1), Eastern (1-5) and Sexton (0-6) will also compete.

The CAAC Red plays at Haslett, which went 5-0. Vikings coach Henry Brunnschweiler expects to be challenged by DeWitt (4-1), St. Johns (3-2) and Fowlerville (2-3). Also competing are Owosso (1-4) and Ionia (0-5).

The CAAC White will compete at Lansing Catholic (3-1), which finished behind Portland (4-0) in duals but ahead of Williamston (2-2), Corunna (1-3) and Lakewood (0-4).
