Mason senior Alex Whitmer took sixth place with a 5K time of 15:54 at Sunday’s qualifying meet in Jackson to earn a spot in Saturday’s Mid-East Cross Country Championships at Kettering, Ohio.
The 11:30 a.m. boys race will follow the 11 a.m. girls race, which will include Greater Lansing meet champion Raquel Serna of St. Louis. She won on Sunday in 18:31.
Among girls who didn’t advance, Williamston’s Raelynn Rasegan took 23rd place in 21:10, DeWitt’s Kaila Black 24th in 21:12, Perry’s Jordan Krauss 29th in 21:59 and Williamston’s Liz Schneider 33rd in 24:00.
In the boys race, Williamston’s Aaron Baumgarten came in 19th in 16:30, Eaton Rapids’ Kenny Wherry 22nd in 16:36, Ionia’s Brice Brown 39th in 17:09 and Owosso’s Eli Jenkinson 44th in 17:16.
