LINDEN – Senior linebacker Noah Evans blocked Cameron Cook’s extra point attempt in the sixth overtime as DeWitt topped Linden 45-44 to advance to a Division 3 regional final game next weekend against long-time rival St. Johns. Jacob Johnson hit Ryan Anderson with a 10-yard scoring pass to give the Panthers (9-2) a 45-38 lead. Mitch Juhl then answered with a 4-yard scoring run before Evans blocked Cook’s extra point to seal the win for DeWitt.

Linden led 17-7 with just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter when Johnson hit Noah Evans with a 30-yard scoring strike. Cameron West then tied the game with a 22-yard field goal with :19 left in regulation. “Linden outplayed us for the first three quarters” said head coach Rob Zimmerman. “But we really came on in the fourth. I can’t express in words how proud I am of my players”.

The teams traded touchdowns and extra points in overtime periods 1, 3 and 4 before the dramatic finish in overtime 6. “Since I’ve been here” said Zimmerman, “it’s the greatest game I’ve been part of.”

Johnson led the way offensively for the Panthers as he went 15 for 29 for 210 yards and five touchdowns. Wideout Ryan Anderson caught seven passes for 105 yards and three scores (all in overtime) and also threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to Christopher Ruby in the first quarter.
