The Detroit Lions have named Everett’s Marcelle Carruthers as their high school coach of the week.
Carruthers has led the Vikings to four of the school’s five playoff appearances while compiling a 51-67 record since 2000. In the years from their first playoff appearance in 1986 until Carruthers took over, the Vikings compiled a 25-89 record that included a 39-game losing streak.
Each coach of the week receives a $2,000 donation to his school’s football program. Each will be honored during the Lions-Bears game at Ford Field on Dec. 30, at which time a coach of the year will be announced with a $4,000 donation to the winner’s program.
