Senior defensive back Logan Seal returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to cap a 31-0 second-half run and lift Portland to a 45-28 victory over defending Class 5 State Champion Flint Powers Catholic (11-1) on Friday. The Raiders (11-1) now advance to the state semifinals next weekend against the winner of today’s River Rouge (11-0)-Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard (10-1) contest.

Portland trailed 28-14 early in the third quarter when junior quarterback Tanner Allison hit junior Auston Brandt with a 56-yard scoring strike. The Raiders then recovered the ensuing onside kick and promptly struck again when Jacob Pohl scored on a 47-yard pass from Allison. Allison then capped the 21-point third quarter with a 1-yard run that put Portland up 35-28.

The Regional title is Portland’s first. “We’ve never even won a District before; we’ve had some tough draws.” said Portland coach John Novara. “This is the farthest we’ve ever been”
