Fourcast

NEW MAN UNDER CENTER

Senior Jacob Zielinski will be tasked with replacing all-area quarterback Derrick McAvoy, who led the Wolfpack to the second most points in program history for a season last year. Zielinski, who has good size at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, could prove to be just as physical of a runner as McAvoy was, having moved from running back .

STRENGTH ON THE LINE

The Wolfpack have a good pair to work around up front. Senior Dan Kiesling is a two-year starter at tackle and was an All-CMAC honorable mention pick in 2011. Senior guard Hayden Arthur also returns after starting all nine games a year ago.

EXPERIENCE DEFENSIVELY

In addition to his quarterback duties, Zielinski also returns as a starting defensive back, as does senior Shaun McKinney, who is also one of Zielinski’s preferred targets on offense. Arthur and Sam Edwards are back along the defensive line and senior Christian Dell, a 6-2, 200-pound linebacker, is also back for the Wolfpack to anchor that unit.

A DETERMINED GROUP

Some 5-4 teams have just enough playoff points to sneak into the field and continue their seasons. Unfortunately for Laingsburg, it was a 5-4 team that was on the outside looking in when the brackets were revealed last fall. It should make this group hungry, and after a trip to Fowler on Aug. 30, the schedule favors the Wolfpack as they try to make their first playoff appearance in three seasons.
