Fourcast

STRONG UP FRONT

After winning 18 games in the past two years with playmakers at the skill positions, Olivet’s strength will be at the line of scrimmage. Senior lineman Don Kyre will lead the way in the trenches on both sides of the ball, before heading off to Mount Pleasant to play on the defensive line at Central Michigan next fall. Seniors Rick McKim and Tanner Myers are Olivet’s other returning starters on the offensive line at tackle and center, respectively.

TOUGHNESS ON “D”

The dominance of the offensive line should translate to the other side of the ball, where the defensive line and linebacking corps will be strong, according to Peters. “We should play good defense and be very physical,” he said. Visger, Loney, Scott Cook and Chase McGill will lead the deep and talented linebacking crew.

EAGLES TAKE TO THE GROUND

Olivet will make the transition from a balanced run/pass attack to a run-first mentality. Behind the line mentioned above, running backs Nick Coolidge and Shane Loney and fullback Austin Visger will carry the load with first-year quarterback Trent Strang.

ROAD SHOW

Olivet has one of the most impressive football stadiums in the area, the only one with artificial turf, but the Eagles will play there just four times this season. After opening the season at Western Michigan University against Maple Valley, Olivet will face the four other Kalamazoo Valley Association teams that made the playoffs last year — all on the road. One of those away games will be at Constantine, last year’s Division 4 state runner-up. The home fans will likely be rewarded, however; the four opponents that Olivet will host had a combined record of 9-27 in 2011, including 0-9 Galesburg-Augusta.
