Prep football roundup: Teigen's TDs not enough to carry Apollo, Sartell routs Big Lake

Noel Teigen had five catches for 122 yards – including a pair of touchdown passes from sophomore quarterback Ben Alvord in the second half — but St. Cloud Apollo fell 24-12 to Rogers in nonconference play Friday night at Michie Field.

Nate Roehl had a 25-yard field goal and caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Connor Henderson as Rogers took a 17-0 lead in the third quarter. But Teigen had touchdown catches of 70 and 8 yards to help the Eagles pull within five — at 17-12.

However, a 12-yard touchdown run by Gunnar Bloom in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach,

Big Lake and Sartell were each once members of the Central Minnesota Conference. Sartell left that conference prior to the 1989 season.

Jake Wenzel caught a 28-yard touchdown pass for the Sabres as well.

Cambridge marched to victory over Sauk Rapids thanks in large part to a strong performance from their running game.

The Bluejackets amassed 275 yards on the ground and had two rushers eclipse the 100 yard mark on the night.

Sauk Rapids were stifled on offense throughout the game but managed to score its only touchdown on the last play of the game.

COLD SPRING – Senior quarterback Mac Mueller amassed 258 total yards and five touchdowns as Rocori ran past Alexandria in the Spartans’ home opener.

Mueller passed for 196 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 62 yards and another score. Senior Jake Huber caught two of Mueller’s touchdown passes and finished with 81 yards for Rocori (2-0). Alexandria was led by Justin Cumberbatch and Nathan Huss who each rushed for 46 yards.

Rocori, who held the Cardinals (0-2) to just 131 total yards, had six sacks and forced five fumbles.

BRAINERD – The Warriors scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to come back and beat the Tigers. Conor Gessell rushed for two touchdowns and Grant Reuer had a 48-yard interception return for a TD in the fourth quarter for Brainerd.

Jacob Peterson scored all four touchdowns for Tech, which led 21-14 at halftime. Peterson rushed 28 times for 123 yards and three TDs for Tech, which lost two fumbles and threw two interceptions.

ANNANDALE – Down 19-14 at half, Annandale shutout Delano in the second half and used a fourth-quarter touchdown run by senior Andy Russek to win at home.

Russek finished with 97 yards and two touchdowns for the Cardinals (2-0). Delano was led by senior Zach Checkal who tallied 163 yards and a score.

BRAHAM – Shaun Hollenkamp hauled in an 81-yard pass from John Larson with 18 seconds left in the first half and Braham went on to shut out Deer River.

Larson threw a 44-yard TD pass and ran in a 20-yard touchdown in the second half for the Bombers (1-1).
