Sheboygan South’s playoff hopes came to an end Friday night with a 28-6 Homecoming loss at the hands of unbeaten Bay Port.

The Redwings, 2-5 overall and in the Fox River Classic Conference, lost their fourth game in a row after opening the season 2-1.

Bay Port improved to 7-0 and will play for the FRCC title next week at Green Bay Southwest, also 7-0.

South’s defense again played well at home — the Redwings allow 20.3 points per game at home compared to 50.7 on the road — holding the Pirates, who entered the game averaging 48.2 points a contest, to 20 points below their average.

However South couldn’t get much going on offense, managing just 146 yards on the night (108 rushing, 38 passing).

Jake Knuth led the Redwings in rushing with 44 yards and a score and was also 6-of-11 passing for 38 yards and an interception.

For Bay Port, quarterback Colton Peterson completed 4-of-14 passes for 65 yards and two touchdowns while also running for 117 yards.

The Pirates scored single touchdowns in the first and second quarters before pulling away in the third on a pair of touchdown passes from Peterson.

Knuth finally got the Redwings on the board late with a 10-yard scamper in the fourth quarter.

South travels to cross-town rival Sheboygan North next Friday to close out the regular season. South won the city showdown a year ago at home, 21-3.
