ISABEL REED

HASLETT sophomore

Anchor in a one-point win: Reed won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke before swimming the final leg of the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, that enabled Haslett to edge CAAC Red preseason favorite Mason 156-155 last Tuesday. Reed missed all-state by two places with a 10th in the 200 individual medley at the Division 3 state finals last year for the Vikings, who finished in second place in the CAAC Blue.

From coach Bob Oliver: “She’s only 5-4 or 5-5 and weighs about 100 pounds soaking wet, but she’s got a big heart. She’s a heck of a competitor, and it was nice to see her at the end. You know you’re going to have a good leg when she’s anchoring. We had a little lead coming in, and she just had to hold it. The four kids (Kate Lehman, Jenny Jess, Danielle Alexander and Reed) on that relay did their job.”
