PORTLAND — The trio of Abby Nakfoor,Claudia Reid and Kaylee Schmitt scored 10 points apiece as the DeWitt girls basketball team pulled away from Portland in the final three minutes for a 46-39 victory Thursday in a battle of unbeaten teams at the Mid-Michigan Showcase Tournament.

DeWitt (7-1) was 12 for 12 from the free-throw line, including 6 of 6 in the final quarter to help seal the win.

Kelsey Spitzley scored 13 points to lead the Raiders, while Allison Russell and Madison King added 12 and 11 respectively.

“It was a typical grind-it-out DeWitt-Portland battle,” Portland coach Ray Kimball said. “They created some turnovers that led to easy buckets and we just didn’t do a good job of playing from behind.”
