Entering the season, it wasn’t a question of if Kiel girls swimmer Elizabeth Buchholz would make it to the WIAA State Girls Swimming Meet in Madison, it was a question of whether she would be able to earn a fourth consecutive medal in the 500 freestyle or not. Answer: Not a problem.
The Raiders senior and Herald Times Reporter All-Area Girls Swimming Athlete of the Year finished fourth in 5:10.32, nearly shaving a second off her seed time to finish behind Shorewood senior Ellen Stello’s 4:58.34.
Buchholz also just missed out on medaling in the 200 freestyle as she was seventh in 1:57.64 — the top six finishers in each event receive medals.
As her swimming career at Kiel comes to a close, Buchholz leaves behind a plethora of records. She broke Kiel pool records in the 100 backstroke, the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle while also setting pool records at Two Rivers in the 100 freestyle and at Chilton in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke.
Buchholz additionally broke the Manitowoc Invite records in the 200 and 500 and has been selected to the HTR All-Area team since her sophomore year and to the All-Eastern Wisconsin Conference team since her freshman year.
