Local surf club qualifies for nationals in California
The Melbourne High Surfing Club qualified for this weekend’s National Scholastic Surfing Association’s Championships after winning the East Coast Region.
The club traveled to California with nine of their approximately 20 members.
Corey Howell, of Eau Gallie High, Wiley Robinson, Brandon Lane, Kieran Grant, Tom Bell and captain Randy Panzarino will compete in the boys shortboard division.
U.S. Surfing Team members Emily Ruppert and Nikki Viesins will surf for the girls in the shortboard division.
Fisher Grant will be in the boys longboard. Tyler Kelsey will serve as an alternate for the boys shortboard.
The event begins today with collegiate competitions and concludes with high school competitions Sunday.
