Yorktown won its season opener, beating Blackford 3-1. Abby Mansker assisted on all three Yorktown goals. Michelle Ellis saved nine shots for the Tigers. Allie Jennerjahn scored for Blackford.
Jay County beat Central 7-2 in its season opener. Alex Abbott had four goals and an assist for the Patriots, while Zane Shreve had three assists. Andrew Dowdle and Chase Clasby each scored for the Bearcats.
Class A No. 1 Wes-Del beat Daleville 25-9, 21-25, 32-30, 22-25, 15-11. Natalie Heaton tallied a match-high 33 digs for the Warriors. Teammate Mackenzie Whitehead paced a balanced Wes-Del attack with 15 kills and 2 ½ blocks. Jayda Morris totaled 15 digs and Lauren Wilson and Meredith Witty each notched eight kills for the Broncos.
Class 3A No. 2 Yorktown defeated visiting Class 4A No. 7 Westfield 25-20, 25-23, 25-27, 25-21. Nikki Box had 20 kills and 18 digs for the Tigers. Taylor Zwickl had 21 digs and 52 assists.
Southside lost its opener to Tipton 25-12, 25-17, 25-16. Madison Smith totaled five kills, two aces and 10 digs for the Rebels. Teammate Danielle Nelson paced Southside with 12 digs.
Class 4A No. 2 New Castle swept Blue River 25-10, 25-11, 25-7. Lauryn Gillis and Laryssa Welch each had eight kills for the Trojans.
Winchester opened its season by beating South Adams 5-0. Dustin Detro (No. 1) and Avery Walker (No. 3) dropped only one game each in their singles matches.
Jay County lost to Marion 5-0 in its season opener. The Patriots dropped all five matches in straight sets.
Jay County beat Union by 40 strokes, 225-265, at Maplewood. Patriot Whitney Gray took medalist honors with a 50.
Wes-Del beat Alexandria 237-244. Melanie Whitesel shot a 55 to win medalist honors and lead the Warriors.
Richmond shot a 192 to win a triangular, while Winchester took second at 196 and Monroe Central shot a 261. Jill Morrison led the Golden Falcons with a 41. Alyssa Retter shot a 57 to lead the Golden Bears.
