The 5-foot-10 junior had a strong showing in the Bixby Tournament in Tulsa, Okla. In three games, Cook had 31 points and 51 rebounds for coach Renee Temple’s team. The junior is helping lead a young Lady Falcons team that lost all of its letterwinners from last season.

The Lady Zizzers earned three wins last week, topping Salem, Jefferson City and Mountain View-Birch Tree Liberty. As usual, the Harding (Ark.) University signee led the way, as the 5-foot-7 senior averaged 30.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 7.0 steals per game.

Velliquette swept matches last week in duals against Willard and Reeds Spring, including a 24-second pin that was his 100th career victory. After being ranked No. 1 in the state by MissouriWrestling.com, the 126-pounder proved his worth by going 6-1 in the Kansas City Stampede, including a win against longtime rival Noah Teaney of Oak Park.

The 6-foot-5 big man continued his strong start to the season for the Kickapoo boys’ basketball team. Last week, Ward had 42 points and 26 rebounds combined in two games: A win against Branson and a loss to Ozark. For the season, Ward is averaging 16.2 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.
