The North Salinas High field hockey team was eliminated Thursday in the first round of the Central Coast Section tourney, falling to Saratoga 2-0 at Saratoga High.
The Falcons were the No. 5 seed and the Vikings were No. 12.
Both Saratoga goals came in the first half.
The first goal came from center forward Megan Doles in the 21st minute.
“It was a perfect shot, there was no way to stop it,” said North High coach Stan Marple.
The second goal came in the 29th minute.
“We got in our goalie’s way, we blinded her, she couldn’t see the ball coming,” Marple said.
According to Marple the Vikings came close to scoring four times in the second half.
“But we just couldn’t get it in,” he said.”The girls laid it all on the line today. They got beat, they didn’t lose.”
North Salinas, which finished second in the Mission Trail Athletic League, ended the season 12-1-1 in league, 12-3-1 overall.
Saratoga, 8-7-0, faces No. 4. St. Francis (Mountain View) in the quarter finals Saturday at Lynbrook High School.
Notre Dame hosts Pacific Collegiate in a Division V quarterfinal match Saturday at 7 p.m. while Santa Catalina is home to Crystal Springs on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Santa Catalina girls visit Sacred Heart Prep for a Division II quarterfinal game on Saturday while the Carmel boys’ water polo team plays Los Altos in a D-II quarterfinal at St. Francis-Mountain View.
