Alex Bassuener scored 20 points, including six 3-pointers as the Wisconsin Rapids boys basketball team suffered a 67-64 double overtime setback to Bay Port in a nonconference matchup on Tuesday.

Riley Pressley added 18 points for the Raiders Steven Minzlaff led the Pirates with 26 points, while Ryan Grabig and Ryan Frieder both added 11 points for Bay Port..

“(It was) just a great high school school game,” Rapids coach Dan Witter said. “We missed seven free throws down the stretch and that hurt us. I think we’re getting better, we’ve just got to find a way to finish close games.

AUBURNDALE – Blake Anderson and Austin Hawkins finished with 14 points apiece, and Auburndale crushed the Panthers in their Marawood Conference South contest.

Auburndale took control of the game by outscoring Pittsville 30-12 in the second and third quarters combined.

Trail Pierce paced the Panthers with 12 points.

PORT EDWARDS – The Blackhawks had double-digit scoring by three of their players. Josh Schraeder had 15, Chris Montag scored 21 and Jacob Joslin also had 17. Montag also hit four 3-pointers for 12 of his 21 points. Leading scorers for Rosholt were Max Yenter with 20 points, and Jared Richter with 12 points.

“(I liked) the idea that we got the ball inside and had three consistent quarters of scoring,” Port coach Dusty Rhodes said. “I think both teams looked like maybe they had the Christmas blues early, but we got a little energy in our step in the third quarter and seemed to swing the game in our favor.”

WAUTOMA – Four different players combined to convert eight 3-pointers on the night for the Papermakersas they beat the Hornets. Lexi Brost, Kendra Marcouex and Taylor Haislmaier each scored 12 points for Nekoosa. For the Papermakers, Brost hit three 3-pointers, Marcouex hit two, Haislmaier hit two and Anna Schubert made one.

Jade Graebel led the Hornets in scoring with 13.

“Our 3-point shooting really kept us in the game tonight,” said Nekoosa coach Scott Linzmeier.
