Prep soccer roundup: Wildcats edge resilient Gators


Washington rallied in the second half of a hard-fought game against West Florida that saw numerous yellow cards to beat the Gators 3-2 at Woodham Middle on Friday night.

West Florida (5-7-2, 2-3) had a 1-0 lead at halftime, following an Austin Boswell header from Cody Heckathorn, but the Wildcats fought back and scored twice early in the second half.

The Gators scored again on corner kick to even the score, but Washington had the late answer to win the District 1-3A matchup.

Chris Searcy, Jake Brown, and Mitch Lipham all scored for Washington (7-3; 3-1), and Holder Hudson had 15 saves to holf off the Gators.

Caleb Ward had eight saves for West Florida.

At Woodham

Gulf Breeze rolls PHS

Tom Fitzgerald and Josh Cerovalo scored two goals each to help the Dolphins pull away from the Tigers for the easy victory.

Lucas Zalar, Ian Johnson and Brai Royar also scored for Gulf Breeze. The Dolphins host Pace on Monday.

At Pensacola High

Dolphins shut out Tate

Gulf Breeze cruised to a 4-0 shutout over visiting Tate Friday night. Mollie Johnson made three saves to hold the Aggies scoreless while four Dolphins’ players scored goals.
