COLLEGEVILLE – Three St. Cloud Cathedral tennis players are moving on to the Section 5A girls tennis tournament semifinals.
Senior Lexie Nepsund defeated Kim Trulock of MACCRAY 6-2, 6-2 in the tournament’s opening round at McNeely Spectrum to advance to the quarterfinals, and a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa’s Eva Lamprecht secured her spot in the semifinals.
Seniors Erin Stocker and Greta Egerman will also continue to represent Cathedral in the doubles competition. In their quarterfinal match, the two were forced to come back on more than one occasion.
Down 4-1 in the first set, they came back to win 7-5. After losing a highly contested second set, they faced a 5-1 deficit in the third set but were able to come back and rescue the win in a tiebreaker.
Semifinal matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Monday.
ST. CLOUD TECH 85
ALEXANDRIA – Megan Bristow won the 200 freestyle (2:07.96) leading the Cardinals to a Central Lakes Conference victory.
Francesca Walker-Rozo was first in the 50 freestyle (25.94), 100 butterfly (101.91) and was part of the 200 medley relay team that took first (2:78) for Tech. Taylor Pick won diving for the Tigers with a score of 166.15.
ST. CLOUD APOLLO 80
Sartell senior Ellen Bloom set a new Apollo pool record in the 100 butterfly (57.97) and also won the 100 breast stroke (1:08.73) as the Sabres defeated the Eagles in Central Lakes Conference play.
Apollo’s 200 medley relay team, consisting of Rebecca Kyrch, Allison Reichl, Hannah Reichel and Kara Bohlen, finished first with a time of 2:20.57.
Fergus Falls 102,
FERGUS FALLS – Briana Schlangen won two events in Rocori’s Central Lakes Conference loss at Fergus Falls. Schlangen won the 500 freestyle with a personal-best time of 5:44.27 and she also won the 200 freestyle.
MELROSE 107, MINNEWASKA/MORRIS 71
MELROSE – Morgan Kingston’s persona- best diving score of 225.70 gave her a first-place finish as Melrose won its fourth consecutive meet.
Freshman Rachael Kulzer won the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 5:39.76.
ST. CLOUD CATHEDRAL 41
ALBANY – Kaitlyn Von Wahlde was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.77) and was part of the first-place 200 medley relay team (2:06.82) for Albany in a Granite Ridge Conference win. For Cathedral, Sydney Wenner was first in the 200 individual medley (2:31.89).
Foley 106, Princeton 78
PRINCETON – Macie Wenner and Alisha Stemper won three events each to lead Foley past Princeton in a Granite Ridge Conference meet.
Wenner won the 50 freestyle (26.81), 100 freestyle (58.03) and 200 medley relay team that won in 2:02.26.
