THIEF RIVER FALLS – Sartell cut a 14-point halftime deficit to just four midway through the second half, but the Sabres couldn’t close the gap further and ended up falling 76-61 to Thief River Falls in nonconference girls basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Senior forward Taylor Mareck put up 18 points to lead the Sabres (4-3).

Also reaching double figures for Sartell were Ashton Haider (12) and Rachel Winter (10).

The Prowlers, who are ranked No. 10 in cthe state in Class 3A, were led by 24 points from Brooke Yaggie.

“We played hard, and will definitely take something away from this game. But we have some things to work on,” Sabres coach Katie Martin said.

ST. CLOUD TECH 67, CAMBRIDGE 56

CAMBRIDGE – The Tigers were 28-for-38 at the free throw line aiding them to the victory. Kaila Burroughs 19, and Anne Soenneker 18 contributed the bulk of Tech’s scoring, helping them get back to the .500 mark (3-3).

ST. CLOUD TECH – Leah Wurm 10, Lizzy Krippner 6, Kaila Burroughs 19, Jill Kedrowski 5, Tiana Brown 7, Sam Boettcher 2, Anne Soenneker 18.

CAMBRIDGE– Brynn Liljander 29, Amanda Hanson 2, Justine Larson 10, Lilly Porta 2, Maria Vavra 4, Paige Muehlhauser 7.

Roseau 8,
Brainerd/Little Falls 2

ROSEAU – Maren Brown and C.J. Kendall each had a goal and an assist, but Brainerd/Little Falls fell to Roseau in nonconference play.

Ciscely Nelson and Katlyn Byfuglien each had a pair of goals to lead the Rams.

Redwood River Riot

REDWOOD FALLS – Daniel Vitale took second at 182 pounds as Sartell finished 11th out of 28 teams at the Redwood River Riot.

Wabasso claimed the team title. Brady Goebel finished fourth at 220 pounds, Zach Motschke finished fifth at 138 pounds and Rylee Molitor finished sixth at 106 pounds.

Tech Invitational

Senior Taylor Pick won the all-around competition with a season-best score of 36.8 as St. Cloud Tech won the team title with a score of 147.5 at the St. Cloud Tech Invitational at Tech High School.

Pick also won the vault with a score of 9.5. Teammate Sarah Lommel won the uneven bars with a score of 9.5. Tech’s Mariah Miller won the balance beam with a score of 9.6 and the Tigers’ Paige Beuning won the floor exercise with a score of 9.45.

Sartell’s Jenisa Cash finished ninth in the all-around with a score of 32.5. The Sabres finished in fifth place overall.

ANNANDALE INVITATIONAL

ANNANDALE – Brooke Leaf won the all-around (35.5) helping Watertown-Mayer take first place. On the vault, Alyssa Haus of Becker scored a 9.4 which was good enough for first place. The Cardinals finished fourth with Brooke Brower placing fourth on vault (9.1), bars (8.45) and beam (8.5).

Team scores: 1. Watertown-Mayer 135.4; 2. Delano 133.65; 3. Becker 131.65; 4. Annandale 128.9; 5. Monticello 127.8; 6. Mound-Westonka 122.9; 7. Maple Lake 119.25; 8. St. Michael-Albertville 118; 9. Litchfield 117.15.

Maple Grove Invitational

MAPLE GROVE – St. Cloud Tech finished in second place — just two points behind team champion Maple Grove — at the Maple Grove Invitational high kick dance competition.

Team scores — 1. Maple Grove 399; 2. St. Cloud Tech 397; 3. Eden Prairie 370; 4. Chanhassen 370; 5. Brainerd 366; 6. Mounds View 335; 7. Andover 342; 8. Moorhead 308; 9. Osseo 267.
