Prep sports roundup: Tech girls tennis team shuts out Rocori

St. Cloud Tech dominated Rocori 7-0 in a Central Lakes Conference dual Tuesday afternoon at South Junior High.

Tech junior Sarah Donnelly defeated Rocori’s Brynn Sauer in a No. 4 singles match 6-4, 6-4. Steph Nardi and Katie Williams won in No. 3 doubles 6-0, 6-1 over Jenna Calthoff and Callie Schwanberg.

In No. 2 doubles, Sabrina Sturm and Kaila Burroughs won their match against Monica Benda and Sam Fussy (6-2, 6-2). The Tigers are 3-0 on the season. All wins have come against Central Lakes conference opposition.

SAUK CENTRE 4, MONTEVIDEO 3

SAUK CENTRE – Senior Kathryn Macey and junior Bethany Ellis used strong performances to help Sauk Centre down Montevideo at home.

Macey won her No. 3 singles match 7-5, 6-4 while Ellis added a 6-0, 6-4 win in No. 2 singles to assist that Mainstreeters (1-0, 8-0).

MELROSE 7, MINNEWASKA 0

GLENWOOD – Melrose got strong performances out of its top three doubles teams as the Dutchmen dropped previously-undefeated Minnewaska.

Melrose (1-0, 8-2) was led by Madison Rausch and Elaine Kraker in No. 1 doubles, Kelly Kennedy and Ashley Zenzen in No. 2 doubles and by Elisha Engelmeyer and Sheila Poepping at No. 3.

The No. 1 doubles team won 6-3, 6-3, No. 2 won 6-3, 6-0 and No. 3 secured a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

LP-GE/U-SA 7, NEW YORK MILLS 0

NEW YORK MILLS – Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Upsala-Swanville Area dropped a total of seven sets as the Thunder stormed past New York Mills.

Senior Nikki Szech and junior Brooklyn Levin led the Thunder (2-0, 4-7) in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches, respectively. The duo each recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories.

HOLDINGFORD 51, BECKER 51

HOLDINGFORD – The nonconference dual ended in a 51-all tie.

The Huskers’ 400 freestyle relay team of Megan Auger, Gabby Langerud, Brianna DeZurik and Maddie Christensen took first place (4:14.56). Auger took first in the 200 freestyle (2:15.7), Langerud was first in the 100 butterfly (1:10.12), DeZurik took first in the 100 freestyle (1:03.42) and Christensen won the 100 backstroke (1:17.05).

Becker’s Andrea Molus won the 50 freestyle (27.90) and the 500 freestyle (5:54.62). Holdingford is 1-1-1 on the season.

SAUK CENTRE 110, ALBANY 76

SAUK CENTRE – Sauk Centre (2-0) defeated Albany in a nonconference matchup.

Junior Julie Bushard captured two personal bests for the Mainstreeters. She finished with a time of 2:30.94 in the 200 IM, which was good for second in the race. She also won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:19.38.

Sophomore Danielle Banal also contributed for Sauk Centre, winning the 100 backstroke (1:08.05).

The top performer for Albany was senior Rachel Tiede, who won the 200 IM (2:25.71) and also recorded a school record time of 5:38.40 en route to her winning the 500 freestyle.

SARTELL TRIANGULAR

SARTELL – Jennifer Thompson won two individual events as the Sabres took first in the triangular.

Thompson won the 50 freestyle (26.02) and the 100 freestyle (57.36).

Team scores: 1. Sartell 158; 2. Monticello 125; 3. St. Cloud Cathedral 44.

ROCORI TRIANGULAR

COLD SPRING – Rocori’s Morgan Berger won the 200 individual medley and Isabelle Schneider took second. Berger aslo won the 100 butterfly.

Team scores: 1. Foley 119; 2. Rocori 82; 3. Morris 47.

WADENA-DEER CREEK INVITE

WADENA – Little Falls’ Mattia Hendrickson won the girls race in 16:13 and three teammates finished in the top five at the Wadena-Deer Creek Invite at Wadena Golf Club.

Chelsea Rutz (16:39), Laura Moe (16:44) and Heidi Moe (16:46) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Mathew Massman was the only Little Falls boys runner to place in the top 10, but four Flyers finished in the top 20 to grab a second-place team finish. Massman finished in 17:51 to place eighth. Keeghan Hurley won the race in 16:49, leading Perham to the team title.

Little Falls’ John Breznika (18:59), Cameron Smith (19:09) and Adam Meleski (19:15) finished 17th, 18th and 20th, respectively.
