Prep tennis roundup: Foley zips past Cathedral 5-2

Abby Kantor defeated Erin Stocker 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles to lead Foley past St. Cloud Cathedral 5-2 in a Granite Ridge Conference girls tennis match at Discovery School.

Mackenzie Bowland of the Falcons defeated Sarah Schmitz 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in a No. 3 singles match that took over two-and-a-half hours.

Greta Egerman and Lauren Stang of St. Cloud Cathedral defeated Alycia Chmielewski and Emily Erickson 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.

Little Falls 4, Mora 3

MORA – Senior Jamie Jenks won at No. 1 singles for the Flyers, defeating Taylor Norby 6-2, 6-3.

Alyssa Athman and Jessica Durfee also won at No. 3 doubles for Little Falls 7-5, 6-4.

ALEXANDRIA 7,
ST. CLOUD APOLLO 0

Alexandria improved to 8-1 with a Central Lakes Conference win at Apollo High School. The Eagles fell to 1-3.

Rocori 7, Sartell 0

COLD SPRING – Rocori had to come from behind to win two of their matches in a Central Lakes Conference shutout of Sartell.

Melissa Nierenhauesen fell 6-2 in the first set of No. 2 singles but won the last two sets 6-2, 6-2 for the Spartans.

Rocori’s No. 2 doubles team of Sam Fussy and Jenna Kalthoff got behind after losing the first set 6-3 but bounced back to win the next sets 6-2, 6-3.

Osakis 6, LP-GE/USA 1

LONG PRAIRIE – Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Upsala-Swanville’s lone win came at No. 1 doubles where seniors Abbey Schultz and Laura Geisenhorf won 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 6-2.

New London-Spicer 5, Litchfield 2

NEW LONDON – Lisa Dobbelaere defeated Laura Knisley 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles as New London-Spicer defeated Litchfield in a Wright County Conference match.

SAUK CENTRE 5,
Yellow Medicine East 2

GRANITE FALLS – Three matches matches rquired an extra set but Sauk Centre was able to grind out a 5-2 victory over Yellow Medicine East on the road in West Central Conference play.

Sauk Centre (9-0, 2-0) was led by dominating performances from its seniors at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Mariah Rieland won her match 6-1, 6-0 while Kathryn Macey downed her competition 6-0, 6-0.

MELROSE 7,
LAC QUI PARLE VALLEY 0

MELROSE – Led by senior Michaela Worms’ hard-fought victory at the No. 1 singles, Melrose – ranked No. 10 in Class A – blew past Lac Qui Parle Valley in a nonconference match.

Worms defeated Lac Qui Parle Valley senior Kellie Thompson 7-5, 6-3 to provide a boost for the Duchmen (2-0, 9-2). All other Melrose teams won their matches in two sets. The win was the seventh in a row for Melrose.

PRINCETON 6, PIERZ 1

PRINCETON – Abby Bujalski and Becca Froelich accounted for the lone Pioneers win at No. 1 doubles. They defeated Taylor Hall and Hannah Wheeler 7-6, 6-2.
