Prep tennis roundup: Singles play helps St. Cloud Cathedral girls to 4-3 victory over Pine City

The St. Cloud Cathedral girls tennis team downed Pine City 4-3 Thursday afternoon at North Junior High.

Cathedral won all four singles matches. At No. 4 singles, the Crusaders’ Erika Barthelemy won to raise her season record to 7-0.

Cathedral finished the Granite Ridge Conference season with a 4-3 record. The Crusaders are 9-9 overall.

SAUK CENTRE 7, LQPV 0

MADISON – Katie Winters and Sophia Rick won 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 doubles match as Sauk Centre swept Lac qui Parle Valley in a West Central Conference meeting.

The Mainstreeters (5-0 West Central, 13-3 overall) won every match in straight sets.

SC APOLLO/SAUK RAPIDS 4, FERGUS FALLS 3

The Eagles (2-5, 3-7) were able to scrape out a victory over Fergus Falls in Central Lakes Conference play at Apollo High School.

The last time these two teams squared off Fergus Falls won by the same score.

This time around, a crucial victory in No. 2 doubles gave the Eagles the extra point and the match.

Autumn Thiel and Shalen Anderson made up Apollo’s No. 2 doubles pairing. They won 7-6, 6-1.

Megan Brennan won her No. 2 singles match in straight sets for the Eagles (6-2, 6-1).

ST. CLOUD TECH 7, WILLMAR 0

The Tigers (8-0 CLC, 8-1 overall) earned their eighth-straight win in the Central Lakes Conference with Lexi Portz and Jill Kedrowski winning at No. 1 doubles (6-3, 6-3) for Tech at South Junior High.

In addition, Katelyn Tarrolly and Katie Williams had wins at No. 2 singles and No. 4 singles, respectively.

MELROSE 6, B-B-E 1

MELROSE – The Dutchmen took all four singles matches in straight sets en route to a nonconference win against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa.

Michaela Worms, Grace Brang, Jailyn Brinkman and Kenedy Meyer all won in straight sets for Melrose in singles play.

It was the Dutchmen’s 15th win in a row as they improved to 17-2 overall. They’re ranked No. 7 in Class A.

BECKER QUAD

BECKER – Lindsey Lorette and Lauren Veldman won all three of their matches out of the No. 1 doubles spot as Becker went 2-1 in a quad.

The Bulldogs beat Big Lake 4-3 and Pierz 6-1, but fell 6-1 to Princeton. Olivia Hultgren and Katie Suckert won twice in the Nos. 1 and 3 singles slots for Becker.
