Prep volleyball: East Lansing off to 12-2 start

CAAC Blue coaches picked East Lansing to finish fourth behind defending co-champions Holt and Grand Ledge, plus perennial power Okemos.

Since a pair of losses in their season-opening tournament, the Trojans are undefeated. Tuesday’s victory over Lansing Eastern improved East Lansing’s record to 12-2 overall and 2-0 in the CAAC Blue.

The Trojans’ 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 16-25, 18-16 victory on Aug. 23 over Lansing Catholic was comparable to Holt’s 25-14, 21-25, 25-23, 16-25, 15-12 over the Cougars. The same day, East Lansing also edged Eaton Rapids 25-18, 25-21, 25-27, 25-15.

Two days later, the Trojans won the eight-team Perry Invitational as 6-1 Kennedy Marker made 37 kills, and 6-foot Piper Tucker finished with 26.

East Lansing then won 25-14, 16-25, 25-10, 25-15 last week at Jackson, which tied Okemos for third place last fall.

Looks like the Trojans may challenge Holt, Okemos and Grand Ledge for the CAAC Blue title.
