Prep volleyball: Lakewood goes for CAAC Cup repeat

CAAC White champion Lakewood looks to repeat as CAAC Cup champions when it travels to CAAC Red co-champion DeWitt for tonight’s championship match.

The varsity teams will battle following the 5 p.m. junior varsity match at approximately 6:30.

The Vikings defeated CAAC Blue runner-up East Lansing 3-0 and CAAC Gold champion Mason 3-0 to reach the final.

The Panthers beat CAAC Gold runner-up Jackson Northwest 3-0 and CAAC White runner-up Portland 3-0 for the right to face Lakewood.

Portland plays at Mason tonight for third place in the CAAC Cup, CAAC Red co-champion Haslett at CAAC Blue champion Okemos for fifth place, and Jackson Northwest at East Lansing for seventh place.

Fowlerville won the CAAC Cup Group Two title with a 3-2 victory over CAAC Red rival St. Johns on Wednesday.

Jackson travels to CAAC Blue rival Grand Ledge for the CAAC Cup Group Three title tonight.

Non-CAAC schools in the Mid-Michigan area hold their traditional league tournaments on Saturday: CMAC at Potterville, TVC at Alma, KVA at Battle Creek Pennfield and MSAC at Vestaburg.

District tournaments begin as early as Monday and conclude as late as Saturday next week.
