Class B No. 1 Lakewood (49-4) will face No. 3 Ada Forest Hills Eastern (43-8) tonight in a 6 p.m. regional final at Middleville Thornapple-Kellogg.
The teams split a pair of matches in two separate tournaments held at East Kentwood.
“They were tight matches all the way,” Lakewood coach Kellie Rowland said. “In fact, one set was 31-29.
“They are very athletic and very fast. So everyone has to play their game, and we have to play our best.”
Senior Emily Kutch had 18 kills, senior Olivia Davis added 12 kills and senior setter Brooke Wieland made 34 assists as the Vikings had to go to five sets to oust No. 7-ranked Holland Christian in a regional semifinal on Tuesday. Ada Forest Hills Eastern eliminated No. 9 Grand Rapids South Christian in three sets.
“Sooner or later, you have to beat the best teams,” Rowland said. “But the east side (of the state tournament bracket) is so uneven compared to the west side.
“Haslett won’t see a ranked team until the (state) semis.”
