Prep volleyball roundup: Apollo beats Rocori 3-1 for first win

Josie Thelen had 14 kills and five digs to help St. Cloud Apollo to its first win of the season with a 3-1 victory at Rocori Thursday night.

Apollo won 25-21, 25-20, 21-25 and 25-8.

Mel Gebhardt had 25 digs and 10 kills for the Eagles, Caitlyn Pederson had 11 digs, two kills and 36 set assists, Katrina Johnson had 25 digs and Hannah Havemeier had seven digs, two aces and eight kills.

Morgan Koshiol had six kills for the Spartans (3-4, 6-11) and Mara Jungels had two blocks.

Apollo is host to Willmar next Thursday.

WILLMAR 3, SAUK RAPIDS 0

SAUK RAPIDS – Sierra Karls finished with 25 kills and 11 digs in Sauk Rapids’ loss to Willmar.

Game scores were 25-20, 25-20, 25-19. Nicole Stedje had 28 set assists for the Storm (2-7 CLC, 8-10 overall).

ALEXANDRIA 3,
ST. CLOUD TECH 0

ALEXANDRIA – Cierra Washington finished with eight kills and 12 digs to lead St. Cloud Tech in a loss to Alexandria.

Game scores were 25-20, 25-13, 25-19.

Kylie Loesch had eight kills and eight set assists and Lindsay Kerr had 12 digs for the Tigers (2-5 CLC, 2-8 overall).

ST. CLOUD CATHEDRAL 3,
PRINCETON 0

Senior Jenna Januschka and sophomore Rilee Midelberg combined for 22 kills as the Crusaders swept Princeton at Cathedral High School

The Crusaders (6-2, 8-6) won 25-16, 25-16, 25-10.

Januschka finished with 12 kills and Midelberg added 10 kills and three blocks for Cathedral. Senior Sophie Harris added 21 set assists for Cathedral.

MORA 3, FOLEY 2

FOLEY – Kerstin Strosahl had nine kills, but Foley fell short against Mora.

Game scores were 25-14, 25-11, 24-26, 22-25, 15-11. Cassi Ritsche added six kills for the Falcons.

ALBANY 3, BECKER 0

BECKER – Sam Schlangen had 25 set assists and four ace serves to lead Albany past Becker.

Game scores were 25-10, 25-12, 25-14.

Amazih Eickhoff had eight kills and Kristin Butttweiler added five kills and three ace blocks for the Huskies (7-0 GRC, 13-5 overall).

LITTLE FALLS 3, MILACA 1

LITTLE FALLS – The Flyers rolled to the 20-25, 25-10, 25-23, 25-20 comeback victory.

Noelle Kurowski had 14 kills and 10 service aces for the Flyers, Stephanie Wardarski had 33 set assists and Kendra Pohlman had 12 kills.

YELLOW MEDICINE EAST 1

PAYNESVILLE – Megan Schaefer was 30-for-30 serving with two aces and 15 digs to lead the Bulldogs. Rachel Ampe tallied 11 kills to best Paynesville in that category.

B-B-E 3, ROCKFORD 0

BELGRADE – Taylor Braegelman finished with 10 kills to lead Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa past Rockford.

The Jaguars grounded the Rockets in straight sets 25-11, 25-12, 25-13. B-B-E (4-0, 11-3) also got strong showings from Hailey Braegelman and Mariah Rach, who finished with 14 and 13 set assists, respectively.

MAPLE LAKE 3, KIMBALL 0

KIMBALL – Breanne Meierhofer had 10 kills, but Maple Lake fell to Kimball.

Game scores were 25-22, 25-21, 25-14. Tiffany Kuechle had 17 set assists for the Cubs (1-3 CMC, 6-8 overall).

HOLDINGFORD 3, HL-W-W 2

HOWARD LAKE – Haley Huls finished with 13 kills and 11 digs, leading Holdingford to a win against Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted.

Game scores were 17-25, 25-21, 25-19, 20-25, 15-8.

Alyssa Omann had eight kills and four blocks and Amanda Young added 39 set assists and 14 digs for the Huskers (1-3 CMC, 8-9 overall).

LPGE 3, EAGLE VALLEY 0

LONG PRAIRIE – Seniors Emily Jansen and Sam Zastrow helped lead Long Praire-Grey Eagle past Eagle Valley 25-14, 25-17, 25-14.

Jansen finished with 15 set assists while Zastrow added eight kills, three ace serves and three blocks for the Thunder (5-2, 12-5).

UPSALA 3, ROYALTON 0

UPSALA – Senior Aimee Pelzer tallied nine kills, 10 set assists and five blocks to help Upsala run past Royalton 25-19, 25-12, 25-16.

Sophomore Danica Cheney added seven kills and 12 set assists to aide Upsala (6-0, 11-3).

SAUK CENTRE 3, MELROSE 2

MELROSE – Junior Briana Schmiesing amassed 25 kills, but Melrose managed to come up short against Sauk Centre.

The Mainstreeters won 25-13, 18-25, 25-14, 22-25, 15-13. Shelby Uphoff added 12 kills for Melrose (9-6) and Emily Goerdt had 27 set assists.

LITCHFIELD 3, ANNANDALE 1

ANNANDALE – The Dragons dropped the first set, but rallied back to take the next three. Litchfield won 21-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-19.
