The Courier-Journal: When did you start playing basketball?

In the sixth grade in Houston, Texas. My grandfather, Marion Carr, was interested in the game and he got me started. We moved back to Louisville before my freshman year.Lowe:

C-J: How do you like playing point guard?

I like playing the two-guard better because I score more, but I like making plays. I like having more responsibility as a point guard.Lowe:

C-J: What’s been your biggest thrill in basketball?

Scoring those 32 points against Bullitt Central last year. I played the first half, but I didn’t score. All of my points came in the second half. I got into a good rhythm. We were down 13 points at halftime, and we almost won the game. We lost by two points. Bringing us back and getting so close was a thrill.Lowe:

C-J: What is your strategy going into each game?

I like starting out by attacking the basket. That opens the outside shot for me. When I hit five threes against Southern, they were leaving me open. When I realize I’m not hitting my outside shot I take the ball to the basket.Lowe:

C-J: How much did playing AAU ball help you last summer?

I had to play point guard and it helped me a lot. There were a lot of college coaches at the games and they sent me a lot of stuff.Lowe:

C-J:Coach Clint Lovely believes you can play college ball at the right level. What schools have contacted you and what do you plan to major in?

Spalding, IU Southeast and some OVC (Ohio Valley Conference) schools. I’m not sure about my major, but I love art and designing things.Lowe:

C-J: What is your goal for the rest of the season?

Finish the season with a winning record.Lowe:

C-J:What occupies your spare time?

I clean house and baby-sit for my two cousins who are 7 and 8. I like to cook spaghetti. Baking cakes and pies are simple. When I’m home, I watch ESPN. I like all kinds of sports. I don’t follow any certain team. I watch college basketball, the WNBA and the NBA. And I love music, all kinds, especially hip hop.Lowe:

She has played varsity basketball four years. She runs on the 4×100 and 4×200-meter relay teams in track, and this spring she plans to play softball for the first time. Carmen lives with her mother, Marian Lowe, and grandmother, Ruby Morris. “Carmen plays hard in practice as well as in the games. She does a good job with the ball in her hand on offense.. She is very aggressive with the ball and attacking the basket. She plays good defense, too, getting a lot of hustle points. She started for us as a freshman and has scored over 1,100 points. Teams double-team her a lot to try and get her out of our offense.”School:Year:Sports:Student/athlete:Family:Coach Clint Lovely:
