Queen Creek running back Matt Guida leapt into the air and hurdled a Nogales defender on his way to a 61-yard gain halfway through the first quarter, drawing gasps from fans on both sets of bleachers.
It was a sign of things to come as Guida ran rampant through the Nogales defense all night, leaping and bowling over defenders on his way to three scores and 212 yards on the ground as Queen Creek rolled to a 35-0 victory.
Backup running back Marcus Still was no slouch either, rushing for 116 yards and two touchdowns of his own in relief for Guida. Overall, the two top rushers had 328 yards rushing and all five of the team’s touchdowns.
Nogales quarterback Marcel Renteria finished the night with 123 yards passing on 13 of 33 attempts with two interceptions.
He was shaken up early in the second quarter with what appeared to be a head injury, but missed only one play before returning.
Queen Creek will play Goodyear Desert Edge in the Div. III championship next week.
Nogales, the 14th seed in the playoffs, ended its Cinderella run at 12-3.
