You are a first-year coach, following several seasons of success at your school, and you lost most of your core players to graduation.

What do you do?

You become Coach of the Year.

That’s the case for Harper Creek’s Ryan Renner, who led Harper Creek to a school-record 27 wins and a Cereal City championship, making him worthy of the 2012 Enquirer All-City Softball Team Coach of the Year.

The 2012 Enquirer All-City Softball Team is voted on by the city coaches and the Enquirer sports staff.

Renner took over the Harper Creek softball program this season and led the squad to a 27-11 record and helped the Beavers become one of the rare city teams to ever win the Cereal City Classic, taking the title during the spring.

Harper Creek was coming off a season in which it won 23 games the year before, but the Beavers were without several seniors from that team.

The 2012 team started slow, but came on late and ended with a record-breaking season.

Joining Renner on the team from Harper Creek are Brianne Burritt, Haley Burritt, Daisy Dale, Breana Ganton, Jozlin Johnson, Christa Moody and Paige Shellenberger.

Lakeview went 14-19 on the season and adds Ashley Barr, Brittney Kimball, Lindsey Martin, Katie Reimer and Grace Wentworth.

Pennfield went 17-20-1 and adds Taylor Haudek, Shelby Miller, Amanda Sare and Ashley Wood.

Battle Creek Central’s Zhaniece Dawson is also on the team.
