Collin Seubert’s touchdown run in the second quarter held up, as the Marathon’s defense shutout Pittsville in a hardfought 7-0 Marawood Conference victory on Friday.
Seubert scored from 5-yards out in the second quarter accounted for the game’s only score set up by a long strike to Jake Dinkel.
“He hit Jake Dinkel for a big play and set up that play,” Marathon coach Todd Stoffel said. “That helps any scoring drive, hitting a big play. We got one big play on their defense and that was really the difference in the game.”
Jake Dinkel finished with 88 receiving yards and Vince Dinkel added five catches for 54 yards.
Marathon intercepted Pittsville quarterback David Sojka twice and recovered a fumble, while surrendering just 200 yards of offense.
“Our emphasis was to get more consistent on defense this season,” Stoffel said. “We knew (Eric) Hahn was a great player and we really keyed on him and limited his good plays.”
Hahn finished with 63 rushing yards on 13 carries, but could not find much running room as far as breaking any long runs.
Marathon travel to face Phillips next week.
