LANCASTER, N.Y.-There’s a new era underway at Lancaster. For the first more time nearly 30 years Len Jankiewicz won’t be coaching the Redskins. Chris Dickson is the new head coach.
Dickson told Two On Your Sides Stu Boyar “Its very exciting. Its an honor and a privilege to be Lancaster’s next head football coach. I’m excited, I’m looking forward to it its a great opportunity that’s been given to me. When Stu asked how he planned to put his stamp on the program Dickson replied “its all about the program. Its not really about me but I’m here to really just do the X’s and O’s and really help these kids grow in the game of football.”
Players say its too early to tell how much different things will be with Dickson at the helm. Junior outside linebacker Matt Szymanski told Stu “its too early to tell but there’s a lot of energy, a lot of positive energy.
Lancaster started fast last season then faded. On defense senior linebacker Hayden Schonert says they’ll rely on their quickness. “We’re going to be a quick defense. We don’t have that much size we’re not going to be the team that’s overpowering everybody we’re going to have to use our speed, our smarts nothing stupid. Keep it simple.”
Junior quarterback Kevin Colafranceschi told Stu about the Lancaster offense “we expect high things. We want to be smart but we want to play fast. Get up to the line and get going.”
Coach Dickson told Stu the priority is to run the ball although with Colafrancheschi it appears the Redskins should have a solid passing game too.
Lancaster opens its season at home Friday August 31st against Niagara Falls.
