Regional softball: Poudre out of postseason; Collins on hold

Poudre was eliminated and Fort Collins was still playing Saturday when its second regional high school softball game was suspended by rain.

Poudre, the No. 25 overall seed, was no-hit by host Mountain Vista in the first game of the Region 2 tournament, falling 2-0.

Fountain-Fort Carson also handed the Impalas a 2-0 loss in the losers’ bracket game, eliminating them from the state playoffs.

“We had a good season,” said Poudre coach Christy Malara, whose team finished 8-12-1. “I’m proud of the girls and the hard work they put in throughout the season. A lot of amazing things happened and a lot of great memories were made. We will never lose that pride in who were are.”

Poudre pitched well and played solid defense in both games but never got the offense going. The Impalas had three hits in the loss to Fountain-Fort Carson.

Fort Collins, meanwhile, lost its opening regional game 9-0 to Eaglecrest at the Region 3 tournament in Arvada. The 21st-seeded Lambkins then faced Brighton in a losers’ bracket game, trying to stay alive for a trip to the Class 5A state tournament.

That game was suspended with Collins trailing 4-3 in the top of the sixth inninig with one out.

The rest of the regional tournament will be made up today.
