Riverdale senior point guard Tyisha Petty has committed to MTSU, where she will join teammate Olivia Jones in the Lady Raiders’ recruiting class of 2013.

Petty, who was the District 7-AAA regular-season MVP, averaged 14.1 points, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals during the 2011-12 season. She was a member of the TSSAA Class AAA girls basketball state tournament all-state team after helping lead Riverdale to its second Class AAA state title in three years.

Petty, a 5-foot-6 athlete, is a three-year starter for the Lady Warriors.

She chose MTSU over Arkansas-Little Rock, Belmont, UT-Chattanooga and Southeast Missouri. Wake Forest also recruited Petty hard, she said.

Petty’s commitment adds to MTSU coach Rick Insell’s local recruiting. MTSU’s current roster also includes Siegel graduate Shanice Cason, Smyrna graduate Dymon Raynor and La Vergne graduate Stephanie Myers.
