Greer’s Haley Lips did not qualify but finished as high as 35th during the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials June 25-28 in Omaha, Neb.
Lips, a former Riverside High star swimming for Y-Spartaquatic Swim Club, placed 35th in the women’s 200-meter freestyle preliminaries with a time of 2 minutes, 1.63 seconds.
Lips, who qualified for five events at the Trials, also finished 41st in the women’s 200 butterfly prelims (2:15.07), 45th in the women’s 400 freestyle preliminaries (4:18.17), 66th in the women’s 100 butterfly preliminaries (1:01.41) and 87th in the women’s 400 individual medley (4:59.18).
Lips was competing in the Trials for the second time. She was the first and only YSSC swimmer to qualify in 2008, and she was one of eight from the club to compete in the 2012 Trials.
Lips, who also competed in the 2011 World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru, will continue her swimming and academic careers at Indiana University.
